HP Mini 110-1125NR 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review

HP Mini 110-1125NR 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)
I think I’ve had this netbook for about a month now. I bought it refurbished but it looks as if its brand new. Right out of the box, my first impression was that it was a great looking netbook. It has nice designs on the front. Very pretty. I picked up the netbook and thought it was very light but then I put the battery in and realized the 6-cell added a considerable amount of weight. The netbook is basically weightless without the battery. Even with the battery I wouldn’t call it heavy. It still should be considered very light. The battery sticks out of the back and raises the netbook. This is actually very useful because it provides better circulation and keeps the netbook cooler. I also have a heavy dell laptop and I’ve always put something under to lift it a little higher from the table but I don’t have to do that with this netbook. As for battery life, I seem to get about the advertised battery life (that’s nearly 8 hours) when I’m just browsing the net and doing simple things.

Lenovo S10-2 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review

Lenovo S10-2 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)
With the S10-2 Lenovo played a game of give and take.

On the outside, the netbook looks and feels cheap. Everything is plastic — even the metal looking bits. This makes for a very light netbook, and one that can survive a drop without much damage [speaking from experience]. Even the decorative colors look like a half-hearted attempt at dressing this device up. Finally, the battery has a hump in it that allows device to sit at an angle. This is a great feature because it allows the netbook too cool efficiently, but at the same time makes S10-2 a bit thick. If aesthetics are important to your computing devices this might not be the netbook for you.

Acer eMachines eM250-1162 Netbook - 10.1″ LED / Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz / 1GB Ram / 250GB HD / 802.11g/g Wireless LAN / Webcam / Windows 7 Starter Review

Acer eMachines eM250-1162 Netbook - 10.1" LED / Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz / 1GB Ram / 250GB HD / 802.11g/g Wireless LAN / Webcam / Windows 7 Starter
I love this netbook so much that I decided to give my very first review here. I purchased the em250 at Walmart for 8. I was not impressed with its performance out of the box mainly because of W7 starter and all the “bloatware” installed. After 3 weeks of trying to speed it up by adding 2GB of ram and uninstalling bloatware I decided to return it to Walmart. I was disappointed to find out that Walmart has a 15 day computer return policy. That is when I researched and decided to format the HD and install W7 Ultimate 32 bit. (Another reviewer mentioned elliptical circles but I have not noticed this on my W7U installation). Alhough this netbook is limited by it’s N270 Atom chip it now is snappy and has unlimited features. Not nearly as quick as my Dell D830 duo dore with W7U but a least twice as fast as the W7 Starter that came with it.
In order to install W7U you will first need to burn 3 DVD Restore Disks from the original HD. I used an external USB DVD burner I purchased and set the bios to boot from the USB DVD burner first. All the drivers are on the W7U disk except for the network controller (wireless card). The Drivers and Applications disk I had created earlier had the missing driver. I just added a 9 cell battery for extended use (6-8 hrs). I would have given it 5 stars if it came with W7 Home Edition installed. This compact netbook now rocks!

Gateway LT2041u 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - Over 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review

Gateway LT2041u 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - Over 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)
I purchased this netbook about a month ago and I can’t put it down. I take it everywhere. The display is crystal clear and the keyboard is just the right size. It does collect finger prints, but as long as you don’t touch the display who cares. I had only one issue so far and the service was great. I can’t say it’s the fastest (2 weeks), but it’s fixed. I had to have the keyboard replaced under warranty. Let’s just say it someone got a hold of it when daddy wasn’t looking. I was able to get it from Amazon for 9 with free shipping…I put in a Western Digital Scorpio 320GB 7200RPM drive…upgraded the memory to 2GB…and put in a 8GB SD card for ReadyBoost (didn’t see a difference with the ReadyBoost). I was able to clone the hard drive, so I didn’t lose any special software or setup. The best part was I didn’t have to try and reinstall an OS. The processor is ok…the reason why I bought this model is because I can’t stand the touchpads on the newer netbook models and there really isn’t that big of a difference between the N280 and N450 chipset. This netbook is completely loaded. It’s perfect for small applications, surfing the net, and doing email. I just put MS Office 2010 Beta on it without any issues. This is my first Gateway and being a computer specialist I was a little nervous, but not anymore.

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-MU17-BU 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - 8.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)
This is a great little computer - easy to carry in a purse or backpack; great battery life. Haven’t hooked it up to a printer yet. Only downfall is the finger print smudges left on the cover. Keyboard is comfortable to use; warning when battery is low.

  • 250GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)

Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BN 10.1-Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)
This Netbook is awesome. The only thing that should be improved is the sound, since the speakers are not so good. Otherwise everything is very good.

Toshiba Mini NB205-N325PK 10.1-Inch Posh Pink Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review

Toshiba Mini NB205-N325PK 10.1-Inch Posh Pink Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)
After much comparison I ordered the NB205-325BN over all others. We already have an Asus net book in house with XP installed so I really figured I would buy another Asus. Not so, after doing the research I ordered the NB205 and a 2gb 800mhz memory module at the same time and installed it prior to even powering up the computer. First remember that a net book has a specific set of tasks that it functions best at, stick to those and you will not end up a whiner about your small computer. The Wi-Fi is very capable of picking up weak signals and not dropping it. The keypad is a rather pleasant one to use. The touchpad needed to be adjusted to my preferences but is nicer to use than most. Battery life is excellent, I’m getting just over 9 hours of life using it for streaming and normal web use. The fit and finish are great, the screen is sharp and I really like the Sable Brown finish. Windows 7 starter works without a hitch. I have had no problems with the OS. I routinely run Skype and 2 or 3 windows tabs at a time. This model does not have Blue Tooth so remember that if you require it. Toshiba has a great reputation for quality and customer service too. There are a lot of choices now for net books but if it’s not a throw away device for you then invest in quality and this little computer is just that, quality. Small, light and very capable of performing its’ assigned tasks.

Samsung N140-14B 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - Up to 7.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)
Everything works as advertised, and I even like Windows 7 Starter. This replaces an older Asus running Linox. The keyboard ergonomics are good for a small computer, and battery life has been excellent.

  • 1GB Memory
  • 250GB Hard Drive
  • 10.1″ LED Widescreen Display, Intel GMA 950 Graphics
